Wayne State launches new undergraduate certificate programs

This fall, the Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures will launch four new undergraduate certificates to enhance graduates' market competitiveness.

The certificates, which are offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), include:

  • Arabic for the Health Care Professions
  • Professional Arabic
  • Conversational and Professional French
  • Practical French
  • The new programs in Arabic and French were developed to help students leverage their foreign language skills in a wide range of global industries.

"Employers and graduate programs increasingly seek candidates with language skills and intercultural competencies," said Vanessa DeGifis, chair of CMLLC. "This is especially true in Michigan, a state that borders Canada and has a large Arabic-speaking population. Certification through one of these new programs enhances a student's professional profile and helps them gain a huge advantage in regional and global job markets."

Students interested in earning one of these certificates should contact CMLLC's in-house academic advisor, Chris Clark.
