Master of Arts in French (Romance Languages)
The city of Detroit was founded by the French and continues to enjoy a French presence with some 145 French automotive subsidiaries in Michigan, including Faurecia, Hutchinson, Delmia and Dassault, and Valeo. The skills acquired through our M.A. program are thus vital to working in a global city like Detroit.
Our master of arts in French provides advanced training in language, literature, and culture. Students who complete the program gain skills in translation, textual analysis, and intercultural competency. Applicants must demonstrate competency in French.
Previous graduates of our program hold a variety of high school and college-level teaching positions and have gone on to receive a Ph.D. at Wayne State and other universities, including the University of Texas-Austin, University of Virginia, and Emory University. Our graduates have also obtained employment in the automotive industry and with other private-sector employers.
