M.U.P. student wins top place at Graduate School's Inaugural Master's Showcase
Congratulations to M.U.P. Candidate Sylvia Tatman-Burruss for securing a top place at the WSU Graduate School's Inaugural Master's Showcase yesterday at McGregor Conference Center. The award was accompanied by a check for $500!
The inaugural event is designed to celebrate the achievements of Master's students and provide a venue to enhance Master's students' career development skills.
Forty-eight master's students from 10 different colleges at Wayne State participated in this event in three categories: poster presentations, oral presentations, and elevator speeches. Faculty members and members of the Detroit business community participated as judges for the event, and asked questions of and offered feedback to students. Awards were given in each category.
Sylvia made a presentation on her essay on mortgage origination in Detroit. In her presentation, she compared mortgage origination rates between Detroit and the surrounding, suburban communities through analysis of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data and by using qualitative expert interviews.
