Professor Mindy Huang granted a 2023 CLAS Teaching Award

Wayne State's Department of Physics and Astronomy is proud to announce that Professor Mindy Huang has been granted a 2023 CLAS Teaching Award. The annual CLAS Teaching Awards recognize professors and lecturers for extraordinary achievements in teaching. Teaching Award recipients have been noted as particularly inspiring by students and colleagues alike.

Dr. Huang is an assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy where she has been teaching since the fall of 2020. This award recognizes Professor Huang’s curriculum development and commitment to student success. She developed a novel online international learning program to promote students’ cross-cultural communication skills and she integrates innovative online tools to encourage hands-on application and active learning across all her physics courses.

Her teaching methods have been described as “both engaging and effective, which greatly facilitates [student] understanding of difficult subject matter.” Her colleagues emphasize that her teaching approaches inspire and encourage students to pursue careers in biophysical research. Reflecting her dedication to training the next generation of scientists, Professor Huang also engages in impactful mentoring and advising of postdoctoral, graduate, undergraduate and high school students.
