Foreign Language Career Day 2023

On April 19, 2023, Wayne State's Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures held the first in-person Foreign Language Career Day since 2019. During the pandemic, the event had been held virtually, so students, faculty, staff and volunteers were excited to return the event to campus.

Foreign Language Career Day is an event where students can network with representatives from a variety of fields, ask questions, and get advice on how to leverage their foreign language studies in their job search and career plans.

Representatives from several including industry, government, academic programs, and non-profit organizations with local and global scope set up tables with materials and discussed their organizations with students, answered questions, and offered them career advice.

The event was well attended, and students got a sense of how their foreign language studies and skills can be translated into a diverse array of careers. Students learned how proficiency in key foreign languages paired with professional studies is in high demand in federal law enforcement, engineering, foreign language education, global business, and global supply chain management, and what kinds of advantages foreign language proficiency gives in the job market.

Students, volunteers, and faculty are excited for next year's event.
