Faculty receive CLAS and FLTC mini-grants
Congratulations to Rie Masuda, who has won a CLAS IT mini-grant, and to Jie Billinger, Silvia Giorgini, Alina Klin, Laura Kline and Maha Saker, who have been awarded Foreign Language Technology Center (FLTC) mini-grants.
Rie Masuda will be developing online grammar and vocabulary practice modules for students in basic Japanese courses, JPN 1010 and 1020. Jie Billinger will be creating multimedia "Voice Threads," audio and video vignettes that will be used in the Chinese 1010 and 1020 courses.
Silvia Giorgini will be continuing to introduce online testing components in the basic Italian courses. She will be moving quizzes and exams from the paper-based format to the Blackboard environment for all Italian 1020 courses.
Alina Klin will be creating an online mini-course on medical Polish in Blackboard and this course will be offered to intermediate and advanced-level Polish students. Laura Kline will be creating vocabulary and grammar exercises, quizzes, chapter tests, and final exams on Blackboard for her third and fourth level Russian students. She will have audio recordings and video material as part of her content.
Maha Saker will be creating a repository of authentic audio-visual material from Arabic media sources on Blackboard for the Media Arabic course, ARB 5020. Grant recipients will be developing their technology-based instructional material over the summer and will implement their projects in their courses for fall 2012. They will also be showcasing their projects at CLAS and FLTC Brown Bag presentations in the winter semester.
