Learning outcome one

Demonstrate academic skills (including computer, research and study skills) in the areas of hearing and diagnostics appropriate for clinical experience.

Assessment method

Data will be collected from the written exam which is administered by audiology faculty at the end of the student's program. The exam scores of all students in the graduating class will be collected and evaluated by the audiology faculty members. The criterion for acceptable performance is 75% pass rate for all students taking the exam.

Results

Learning outcome met. 7/7 students met the criterion of 75% or better on the examination. (Compiled by Thomas Simpson).

Learning outcome two

Describe and evaluate the effects of language and culture on normal and hearing impaired.

Assessment method

Each student researched an assigned cultural group and presented information that described the effects of culture and linguistic diversity on hearing communication.

Results

Learning outcome met. Nine students completed this assignment in the fall of 2020 and 100% of students passed. The criterion set was met. (Compiled by Mary Kassa).

Academic year: 2021-2022

Learning outcome one

Demonstrate academic skills (including computer, research and study skills) in the areas of hearing and diagnostics appropriate for clinical experience.

Assessment method

Outcomes are measured on a comprehensive examination covering the curriculum in audiology. All audiology faculty members develop questions for this examination based upon the subject matter they cover in classes. The exam includes over 175 multiple-choice questions representative of the current curriculum in audiology. The exam undergoes annual review to assure its sufficiency for current course contents. The exam is given in March (the winter semester) to third-year audiology students. A score of 75% is considered to be passing. If a student does not achieve a passing score, areas of academic weakness are identified and reviewed with the student. The student then retakes a modified version of the examination.

Results

Learning outcome met. The comprehensive exam in audiology demonstrated good results. The scores ranged from 80% to 88%. The target level of competence was met by 100% of the students.

Learning outcome two

Describe and evaluate the effects of language and culture on normal and hearing impaired.

Assessment method

Each student completed a project describing the effects of culture and linguistic diversity on hearing communication. A pass/fail measure was used.

Criterion

Each student will give a presentation describing the effects of culture and linguistic diversity on hearing communication. At least 80% of the students will pass this project.

Results

Learning outcome met. 100% of students passed the project.
