A message from Department Chair Brad Smith, fall 2024

Dear alumni and friends of WSU Criminology and Criminal Justice,

As we head into fall, our new academic year is well underway. As always, we are excited to welcome our newest students into the CCJ community! We have lots of continuing and new initiatives designed to engage and prepare our students. Because of the enormous success of our first Halloween trick-or-treat event last year, with hundreds of students converging on the building for a fun-filled couple of hours, we have decided to make it a tradition. We have lots of other exciting events for students that I hope you’ll check out.

In addition to engaging students, we want to engage with you more and we hope you can join us for a departmental happy hour scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 21 at Elephant & Co. This is a great opportunity to connect and network with fellow alumni and staff from the department. I really hope you will join us!

In addition, to highlight the many places our alumni work, we are challenging you to send us one of your agency’s challenge coins for display in the department (we now have a department challenge coin as well). I hope you’ll take a moment to check out some of the other new things in the department, including our newest professor.

As always, I love hearing from alumni who are creating change in their communities, who have career news to share, or who would like to be more involved with the department. Please get in touch with me at bradsmith@wayne.edu. Finally, thank you to those of you who have donated to the department. Your investment in our work is a powerful vote of confidence and I appreciate it. And if you’re considering a gift to the department, visit clas.wayne.edu/cj/give. Thank you and have a wonderful fall.

Sincerely,

Brad Smith
