Wayne State welcomes Assistant Professor of Teaching Dr. Toycia Collins
Wayne State's Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice proudly welcomes new Assistant Professor of Teaching Dr. Toycia Collins!
Dr. Collins began her academic journey at Wayne State 14 years ago, initially majoring in broadcast journalism before discovering her passion for criminology and criminal justice. She earned her Master of Science in Criminal Justice in 2017 and recently completed her Ph.D.
Her dissertation focused on homicide investigation and clearance rates in her homeland of Jamaica. Prior to her new role, Collins served as the project director for Wayne State’s Educational Transition Coordination Program, where she helped justice-impacted individuals pursue higher education and transition back into society after release.
A mother of two and an avid reader of biographies, Dr. Collins continues to contribute to the field by examining the intersection of criminal justice and public policy. Wayne State is proud to have her join the faculty.
