Anthropology welcomes 13 new grad students

Wayne State's Department of Anthropology welcomes a new cohort of 13 graduate students this fall! These students are joining the dept. from all over the United States and worldwide – as far as Bangladesh – to be a part of our amazing community in Detroit.

Ericka Pica, who comes to us from Scranton, PA (yes, The Office Scranton), is a graduate of Penn State. She's excited to work with Dr. Jaymelee Kim, focusing on forensic anthropology and was impressed with the anthropology department's extensive diversity across the subfields of the discipline.

Matthew Michalski was born in Michigan and is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He has spent most of his life living in Florida and Arkansas but after moving back to the mitten with his family, he chose Wayne State to continue his education. He will focus on the archaeology of foodways.

Mozelle Bowers is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and was interested in Wayne State for the same reasons as many other graduate students in the program – we share a passion for hands-on research and community engagement. She’s looking forward to expanding upon her master's thesis focusing on evaluating health, social organization and childhood by analyzing adult and non-adult skeletal remains in Ecuador for her dissertation research.
