This summer Krysta Ryzewski, Ph.D., associate professor of anthropology, was named co-editor of "The American Experience in Archaeological Perspective", a prestigious historical archaeology book series published by the University Press of Florida. Since its founding by co-editor Dr. Michael Nassaney in 2003, there have been 26 books published in the American Experience series.

The editorial position is a long-term commitment that will allow Ryzewski to participate in shaping the next generation of scholarship in historical archaeology.

The monographs published in the American Experience series are written as overviews on particular topics in historical archaeology. Authors use archaeological methods, theories, and artifacts to gain a clearer picture of the processes, institutions, settings, or events that shaped the American past. Ryzewski has a deep interest in historical archaeology and uses it as a tool to understand the struggles of the past and their present-day legacies.

Her work in the U.S. and Caribbean appears in over 40 articles and three books, including her forthcoming book, "Detroit Remains: Archaeology and Community Histories at Six Legendary Places" (2021).

Dr. Ryzewski is excited about taking on an editorial role in which she will have the opportunity to apply her enthusiasm for reading and writing to many different scholarly projects.
