Snyder Appoints WSU PS & Law Alumna Lara Nercessian to Council on Genocide & Holocaust Education

Lara Nercessian (B.A., Political Science, 1999; J.D., Wayne Law, 2003), an attorney in the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, has been appointed to the fifteen-member Governor's Council on Genocide and Holocaust Education.

The Council's mission is "to promote, within schools and the general population of Michigan, implementation of genocide education by identifying strategies for providing and enhancing genocide education to students and identifying programs and resources to train teachers in providing genocide education." Ms. Nercessian brings to the Council an extraordinary record of service to the Armenian community, including terms as Chairperson of the Armenian National Committee of Michigan, of the Armenian Relief Society of Michigan, and of the Armenian-American Bar Association.

Ms. Nercessian has fought tirelessly for remembrance of the eliminationist campaign that the Ottoman Empire perpetrated against the Armenian people behind the smokescreen of armed conflict during World War I.
