February 2016 Alumni Spotlight:

Alexander Kappaz

Alexander Kappaz graduated from Wayne State University in 2014 with a B.A, in Political Science and a minor in Italian. After graduating,Alexander began working as an account manager for Authentic4D, which is a company that converts plaintiff radiological images (MRI, CT, and X-Rays) into easy-to-understand evidence in 3D images to beused by insurance carriers in communicating exaggerated or non-existent injuries during any phase of litigation.

Much of what Alexander does in his job revolves around improving client relationships by tracking and reporting on key metrics (data), and using those metrics to optimize customer opportunities. Communication and analyzation skills, especially data and statistical analysis, are key to Alexander's job at Authentic 4D. While many of his coworkers have Business degrees, he feels that his Political Science degree helped to prepare him just as well for his current job.

Alexander chose a career that is outside of what most students would think would be available to Political Science majors, but he was clear in saying that the Political Science degree provides students with a solid foundation for entering the private sector, and that the diverse skillset of Political Science majors can be helpful to most companies. His advice to students is to take advantage of internship opportunities and to network as much as possible. Alexander believes that making connections through internships are very important to getting the job that you want.

" A B.A. in Political Science prepared me for this role by expanding and developing my analytical skills. Paying attention to detail and metrics is extremely important both in and outside of the classroom. Without this skillset, I do not believe I would be able to perform my tasks and duties at a high level. I work with business majors, and I can say with confidence, that we are well-prepared in this regard."
