Scholarships and financial aid
The annual Wayne State University Scholarship Application period runs from Oct. 1 through March 1. Applicants will be considered for the scholarships listed below, as well as the scholarships available throughout the university, by using just one application.
Program scholarships
Charles F. Otis and Dr. Jeffrey L. Reider Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. To be eligible for the award, students may be full-time or part-time, graduate or undergraduate, researching the history of gender and sexuality.
Christina J. Neumann Endowed Memorial Scholarship for Women Studying Science
The Christina J. Neumann Endowed Memorial Scholarship for Women Studying Science award is established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. To be eligible, applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in or accepted for study in the College of Science. Applicants must be in good academic standing, with a minimum 3.4 GPA and demonstrate financial need.
Dr. Rae Lee Siporin GLBTA Endowed Scholarship
This award is established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. To be eligible, applicants must be full or part-time undergraduate or graduate students working or interning within any of the following: Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies Program, Wayne State Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies (GLBTA) Student Union and resources area, other related student groups over time, any GLBTA related university offices and programs that develop over time, or local GLBTA community organizations and programs. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. Applicants will submit a brief statement about their plans for the internship or work they will do in the GLBTA department or program.
Ethel B. Chase Women of Wayne Scholarship
This scholarship was established to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. To be eligible, students must be full- or part-time in good academic standing or be accepted for full- or part-time study. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
Federation of Women's Clubs of Metro Detroit Scholarship
The Federation of Women's Clubs of Metro Detroit Scholarship was established to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. To be eligible, students must be full- or part-time or be accepted for full- or part-time study. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
Judith Siegel Pearson Award
In appreciation for her commitment to the study of women's literature, this award is an annual prize for the best creative or scholarly work on a subject concerning women. Judith Siegel Pearson was born in Detroit, educated at Wayne State University, where she received her B.A. (1966) and M.A. (1968), Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to receive her Ph. D. from Washington University (Missouri) and taught at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. There she became one of the first English instructors to include Women's Studies methods in her classes. LaGatella LGBT Endowed Scholarship
The Michael P. LaGatella Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Endowed Scholarship provides financial support to meritorious students who demonstrate positive sensitivity to and involvement in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. To be eligible, applicants must be full- or part-time undergraduate students who are in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Endowed Scholarship
This fund is established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress and assist students in financing their education in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. To be eligible, applicants must be at least half-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts in good academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate positive sensitivity to and involvement in LGBT issues.
Mildred Gottdank Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Mildred Gottdank Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress and provide assistance to students in financing their education in the College of Nursing. To be eligible, recipients must be a full-time or part-time graduate or doctoral student in any college of nursing program that focuses on women's health issues. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
Professor Effie Ambler Memorial Endowed Scholarship in History
This scholarship fund was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress and provide assistance to students in financing their education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. To be eligible for the award, applicants must be full or part-time undergraduate students majoring in history with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students specializing in gender and sexuality studies.
Ron Strube Memorial Annual Scholarship
This fund is established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress and provide assistance to students in financing their education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. To be eligible for the award, the student must be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Junior Year in Munich Program with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the student's major. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are actively involved in LGBT organizations and/ or students from a rural area/background.
Paulette Perrone Hoyer Memorial Endowed Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress, and provide assistance to students in financing their education. To be eligible, applicants must be full-time or part-time students in the graduate program in the College of Nursing specializing in the health care of women. Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership and financial need. Recipients must demonstrate financial need.
President's Commission on the Status of Women's Female Athletic Endowed Scholarship
The President's Commission on the Status of Women, established in 1971, acts in an advisory capacity to the Office of the President. This fund was established to recognize scholastic and athletic achievements, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate financial need, remain in good academic standing and participate in athletics at Wayne State University. Preference will be given to full- or part-time, graduate or undergraduate students, including incoming freshman or transfer students.
Women of Wayne Scholarship
The Women of Wayne Scholarship was established to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. To be eligible, students must be full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students or accepted for full-time study. Applicants must supply an unofficial transcript and outline participation in activities that demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and/or the work of the President's Commission on the Status of Women. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.
Women's Sport Endowed Athletic Scholarship Fund
This fund was established to recognize scholastic and athletic achievements, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. To be eligible, applicants must be full- or part-time, undergraduate or graduate students participating in a sport at Wayne State University. Applications must demonstrate financial need.
