Meet writing and media intern, Nicole Saez
The English department would like to welcome Nicole Saez to the position of writing and media intern. Nicole is a senior who plans to graduate in December of 2019 with a bachelor’s in English and Spanish. A love for languages and writing has led Nicole to her current degree path, which she began pursuing at Wayne State University after transferring from Schoolcraft College in 2017.
Nicole is excited to develop her passion further through the internship as well as learn to use her writing skills in a new setting. Last year Nicole presented a paper at the Rushton Conference which examined Latina identity and feminism in novels by two Latina authors. She thinks this was a great way to combine her interests in both of her majors.
Ever since she was little, Nicole has enjoyed reading and creating her own stories. In college, she has taken several creative writing classes and is currently writing a novel which is slated to be published in March of 2020 through New Degree Press. The novel, tentatively titled The Best Four Years, focuses on Michaela Reyes as she navigates through her college experience, which turns out to be nothing like what she had imagined.
Nicole believes there is nothing greater than exploring the adventures within a book or crafting an original story with unique characters. The only thing that comes close is traveling (which is also a great source of inspiration for those stories!). This past summer, Nicole studied abroad in Spain and hopes to one day visit England. In the meantime, Nicole is looking forward to contributing to the WSU English community through this internship!
