Jule Wallis received a 2014 President's Award for Excellence in Teaching
Lecturer Jule Wallis has received a 2014 President's Award for Excellence in Teaching. The President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching recognize faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to teaching. This year there are four awards. Since 1977, 238 Wayne State University faculty members have been recognized for their teaching with these awards.
Dr. Wallis received her award at the WSU Academic Recognition Ceremony on April 24, 2014. According to the program,
Lecturer Jule Wallis is a dedicated and innovative teacher of writing and director of the university's Writing Center. She trains and mentors all new graduate teaching assistants in English and frequently makes pedagogical presentations at state and national conferences. Focused on Active Learning Theory, her student-centered classes encourage transfer of knowledge through multiple opportunities for writing using scaffolding of assignments. Through Writing Across the Curriculum and Writing in the Disciplines pedagogy, she creates discipline specific writing instruction and engages students in writing that becomes meaningful, ongoing and multidimensional. Her students praise her exceptional communication skills; consider her a coach, facilitator and mentor; and describe her as knowledgeable, enthusiastic, approachable and a good listener. Wallis is highly regarded by students and faculty. She has made extensive contributions to student success and has provided invaluable services to the English department, Wayne State University and her profession.
