English grad students travel to Germany
In May, WSU graduate students traveled to Munich and Nuremberg, Germany with Professor Barrett Watten to take part in the Third International Summer Academy, sponsored by the Bavarian-American Academy and the universities of Munich and Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Among the seven WSU graduate students were Jill Darling, Kristine Danielson, Shashi Thandra, Judith Wilbers, Jessamon Jones, Sara Kern and Ed Brown. The focus of the two-week program was "Transatlantic American Studies: Democratic Cultures, Past and Present." Professor Watten then traveled to France, where he presented a plenary lecture at the annual conference of the Association Française d'Etudes Amériques, in Brest, Brittany, and a public seminar at the Université; de Paris-Ouest, Nanterre.
He returns to Germany in July for a public seminar at the University of Munich and a conference on collectivity and poetry at the University of Mainz.
