English faculty team awarded CLAS TIDE grant

A team of six faculty members from the Department of English has received a CLAS Teaching Innovation, Development and Excellence (TIDE) Award.

Ryan Flaherty, Jaime Goodrich, Jared Grogan, ML Liebler, Lisa Maruca and Jule Thomas will collaborate to develop a General Education course on public humanities that answers two key questions: "What can the humanities be? What can the humanities do?" Combining hybrid course delivery, project-based learning, community-engaged pedagogy, and team teaching across field boundaries, this experimental course will use WSU's position as a premier urban research university to create experiential learning opportunities in creative writing, literature, medical humanities and technical/professional communication.

In the process, the TIDE team will introduce students to the theory and praxis of public humanities in order to help them discover how humanities degrees can change their lives--and the world. Congratulations to the TIDE Public Humanities team!
