Rushton Undergraduate Journal submissions

The Rushton Journal of Undergraduate Humanities Research is an annual interdisciplinary journal that publishes outstanding undergraduate scholarship. Edited by Wayne State students, the Rushton Journal aims to build intellectual community and to enhance the undergraduate experience at Wayne State. The journal welcomes submissions of scholarly work from WSU undergraduates in the humanities and related fields, such as African American studies, anthropology, art history, communication, English, foreign languages, history, and philosophy.

Call for submissions for the Winter 2025 issue:

While submissions may be focused on any topic relevant to the humanities and related fields, journal editors for volume two will be particularly interested in papers that explore the idea, emotion, and state of joy or joyfulness, especially as it is manifest and experienced from and within a community

You may use the form below to submit your paper for consideration. If you have any questions about the submission process, please email the Rushton Journal editors.

Only one submission per author. The submission deadline is May 19, 2024.

Document submission

Please submit two separate documents:

1) An original research paper of 2,000-6,000 words, including references and bibliography, written for a course taken at Wayne State.

2) An abstract of 150 words that describes the paper’s argument and topic.

Before submitting, make sure you have completed the following formatting requirements:

a) Remove all identifying information, including your name, course name, and any instructor grading comments or marks, from the body of your paper and your abstract.
b) Include the paper title on the first page of your paper and on your abstract.
c) Ensure the body of your paper is double-spaced in a standard 12-point format.
d) Number your pages.
e) Save and submit your paper and abstract as Word documents.

Please note: Bibliographic citations may be formatted according to any field-appropriate style. Authors may be asked to reformat their citation style upon acceptance of the submission.
