Students complete suicide prevention training
As part of our ongoing commitment to equip students with practical skills for their future careers, the department has recently partnered with the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) to organize a suicide prevention workshop, the LivingWorks safeTALK program, which was made available to both students and guests.
The training was conducted by Seth Persky, the division director of MDHHS Children’s Services Agency. To ensure a supportive and secure environment, WSU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) were present, overseeing the proceedings and prioritizing the well-being of all participants, particularly during the more intense discussions.
Throughout the workshop, attendees received comprehensive education on recognizing signs of suicidal ideation and how to effectively connect individuals with appropriate intervention resources. The collaborative efforts of the MDHHS and our department aimed not only to impart vital skills but also to foster a sense of community responsibility.
For their participation and successful completion of the training, attendees were presented with a certificate, recognizing their commitment to the critical cause of suicide prevention.
