Spring/summer 2023: A message from Department Chair, Dr. Brad Smith

Dear alumni and friends of WSU Criminology and Criminal Justice,

As you'll read below, we've had some amazing events this past semester. In March, we hosted our inaugural career conference for students. It was wonderful to see professionals from so many fields interact with our students in this daylong event which students loved. Also in March, Professor Jennifer Wareham was acknowledged for her work as the program co-chair of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences 2023 annual conference.

Students from our National Science Foundation summer program, in which Professor Wareham serves as a faculty mentor, were also in attendance. And, for those who haven't heard, Professor Wareham accepted a position in the WSU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as our newest Associate Dean - congratulations Jenn! In April, we hosted our career fair in person for the first time since 2019 with a record number of recruiters on campus.

As always, I love hearing from alumni who are creating change in their communities, who have career news to share, or who would like to be more involved with the department. Please get in touch with me at bradsmith@wayne.edu. Finally, thank you to those of you who are donating to the department. Your investment in our work is a powerful vote of confidence and is very much appreciated. And if you're considering a gift to the department, please visit giving.wayne.edu. Thank you and have a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,

Brad Smith
Chair, Wayne State University Criminology and Criminal Justice
