Second annual career exploration conference for students
Wayne State's Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice successfully held its second annual career exploration conference for students, providing insights into the many career opportunities available and encouraging forward-thinking regarding their career trajectories. The day-long event included 19 professionals representing diverse career fields, each contributing to a series of interactive panels.
Throughout the event, students were able to engage with seasoned professionals, gaining valuable insights into the nuances of various professions and cultivating an understanding of the expectations and challenges associated with their chosen paths.
Student Sumina Tasmin got a lot out of attending the conference for the first time this year sharing, "The students are amazing and the department wants to see you succeed. But that is not the best part. The panelists were willing to talk and answer questions after the panel. As someone who’s goal is to become a detective, I learned that getting my master's will help me reach that goal faster. Overall, I loved every minute of my time and can’t wait until next year!"
In addition to the sessions, a resource fair was held, providing students with access to pertinent materials and information to assist in their ongoing career exploration and decision-making processes.
Aside from the panel discussions, students engaged in networking during intermissions, forging connections with respected alumni and other professionals in the industry. They also had the opportunity to participate in a professional headshot session. Student David Foust shared his thoughts on this year's conference saying, “I enjoyed this year's career fair, I love networking with the best and brightest of the criminal justice field. Hearing their testimonies inspires me to work hard and dream big. I learned a lot of things from the professionals in the field. I’m looking forward to attending more events like this in the future!”
This event stands as a testament to the department's commitment to fostering professional development and empowering students as they navigate their future careers. The department is grateful to all involved and looks forward to next year's conference!
