Associate Professor Brad Smith appointed acting chair

Associate Professor Brad Smith has been appointed Acting Chair of the department effective August 2013.

Dr. Smith has a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati and the title of his dissertation is "Explaining Police Activities Across Urban Neighborhoods".

He is the co-author of two books: Police & Society (2012, Oxford University Press) and Race and Police Brutality: Roots of an Urban Dilemma (2008, State University of New York Press). Recent articles include "An Empirical Examination of Retired Police Officers' Length of Retirement and Age at Death: A Research Note", "Race/Ethnicity and Perceptions of Police Bias: The Case of Chinese Immigrants.", and "What to Do About Stalking: A Preliminary Study of How Stalking Victims Responded to Stalking and Their Perceptions of the Effectiveness of These Actions."

Dr. Smith has been at Wayne State since 1999. Prior to coming to Wayne State, he worked on projects funded by the National Institute of Justice and the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services.
