Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne has been appointed as the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Professor Seneviratne holds a Ph.D. from Wayne State University (1997) from Chuck Winter's Research Group. He is an expert in the chemistry and nutrition of edible oils

Professor Gomika Udugamasooriya was appointed as the President’s Senior Advisor on Science and Technology. He holds numerous patents, his decision to transition from his role in U.S. public service to take up the honorary position of Senior Advisor on Science and Technology is a notable development. He earned his Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Bioorganic Chemistry and Biochemistry, under Advisor Professor Mark R. Spaller in 2006. Professor Udugamasooriya is a pioneer and innovator, whose work has led to novel treatments for cancer, and inflammatory diseases.
