Dr. Bailey McCarthy Riley: from WSU to Washington D.C.

Congratulations to Dr. Bailey McCarthy Riley! Bailey defended her dissertation: "Microchamber-based Digital Pcr for Single Target Analysis of Biological Analytes," on Friday, December 16, 2022. Her research was completed with her advisor, Tom Linz. Her committee included her advisor and Long Luo, Christy Chow, and Carolyn Harris (WSU, College of Engineering)..

Bailey came to Wayne State University Chemistry from Saginaw Valley State University, where her undergraduate research used analytical techniques to investigate the Saginaw Bay Watershed. In 2016, she joined the Linz Lab at WSU and focused her research on the development of microfluidic devices for environmental and health applications.

While at WSU, Bailey was selected as a student for the National Science Policy Network (NSPN) Scholar's Program. As a member of the Detroit Science Policy Network and a National Science Policy Network SciPol Scholars fellow at Annual Reviews, she translates review articles to science policy. Currently, Bailey is a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Knauss Fellow at the U.S. House of Representative's Science Space and Technology committee on the Environment subcommittee. This Committee seeks to understand and interpret the cutting edge technologies that will drive innovation and economic growth in the country.
