Claudio Verani receives new grant from the U.S. Department of Energy
Claudio Verani has received a new grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for his proposal: "Strategies for Water Oxidation with Abundant Metals: Catalyst Design, Immobilization on Conducting Substrates, and Sensitizer Integration." According to Dr. Verani, "Water oxidation is the bottleneck step for the generation of fuels from water. It has been realized with precious metals, but we need abundant 3d metals like manganese, iron and cobalt to make the process affordable. However, the current 3d-based molecular catalysts are prone to deactivation through complex mechanisms. This proposal offers a comprehensive plan to designing new ligands that deliver strong chelation, adapt to redox/geometric changes, and resist the most common deactivation mechanisms of demetallation to deliver innovative results." Congratulations!
