Meet Randall Wyatt, c/o 2014
Why did you choose sociology as your major?
I chose to major in sociology because I felt it was the most optimal area of study for comprehensively analyzing, understanding, and working to correct the nuances within society. Being a major in this department has been a great experience and has made me much more analytical in my day-to-day endeavors.
It has helped me to better comprehend political policy, public images, and philosophical debates from classical representations of different groups, power relationships within society, and the implications that all of these variables have on the quality of life of the general public.
Where are you currently working or attending graduate school?
I have enrolled in the graduate program for sociology at Wayne State with aspirations of earning a master’s degree and later a doctorate.
How have you used your sociology courses/background in the real world?
I plan to utilize my degree in sociology to continue to broaden my horizons and increase my scope of knowledge on society and work to ameliorate and hopefully eradicate some of its problems.
What is some advice you can offer to future and current undergraduate sociology students?
My advice to future undergraduate sociology majors would be to take the things learned in sociology courses and use them as tools to reshape society for the better. I would implore them to approach sociological studies with a great seriousness and vigor. One person may not be able to change the world, but they should approach life and their work as if they feel that they can.
