Sociology students visit Department of Homeland Security

Professor Lauren Duquette-Rury and students from her People on the move course on contemporary U.S. immigration (SOC 3510) went on a trip to the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal field office.

Students taking the course are currently studying U.S. immigration policy at the border as well as the interior. The class had the opportunity to tour the facilities and meet the field office directors; they also met ICE officers to understand the enforcement and removal process first-hand.

The Sociology department would like to thank community relations officer Valentina Seeley, for her help in organizing the visit; as well as thank the Detroit DHS ICE ERO field office for their hospitality.
