Sociology professor working with the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan

Dr. Khari Brown, Associate Professor in Department of Sociology at Wayne State, is starting a new project during Summer 2012. He will be working with the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan to help them better utilize the National Politics Studies (NPS) dataset. Using NPS data collected between 2004 and 2010, he will be examining the connection between religion and racial attitudes. Dr. Brown will be trying to determine the effect of exposure to political and race-based messages within places of worship on White attitudes towards race-based policies in 2004 and 2008. NPS is primarily interested in political attitudes and behaviors, racial/ethnic group and American identity, racial/ethnic relations, and religion. It is one of few studies that contain large samples of Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Black Caribbean Americans. Dr. Brown's work with the ISR/NPS team at University of Michigan will continue throughout the 2012-2013 year.
