Sociology Cares Volunteers Fight Hunger and Help at Jingle Bell Run

The Sociology Cares group was very busy Saturday morning, December 6th, at two simultaneous events: packing food at Focus Hope and serving as course marshals for the Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run.

A group of 25 Sociology Cares volunteers packed 1,485 boxes of food at Focus Hope. The group, comprised of faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, friends and family, helped in the fight against hunger by "cutting stock" (Focus Hope lingo for opening boxes and putting food on pallets) and packing boxes of nutritious food for distribution to families with young children and low income senior citizens. Because of the overwhelming number of volunteers, a group of eight undergraduate students volunteered as course marshals for the Jingle Bell Run. The 5K race is the largest holiday aimed to fight arthritis.
