Professor Morton is awarded grant from the National Institute of Health

Please join us in congratulating Professor Patricia Morton, assistant professor of Sociology, who is part of an interdisciplinary team that was awarded $824,948 from the NIH National Institute on Aging to study the long-term physical and cognitive health effects of negative childhood exposures. The project, titled "Childhood Misfortune and Adult Health among Black, White, and Hispanic Americans" focuses on understanding how childhood conditions, such as a socioeconomic status and abuse, influence trajectories of adult health in mid- and late-life. Working with colleagues from Purdue University and Rush University, Dr. Morton will serve as a co-investigator and Wayne State site-PI to identify the intermediary mechanisms linking childhood conditions to the leading causes of death in the United States for Black, White, and Hispanic adults.

Congratulations, Dr. Morton!
