"I Am The World's Oldest-Known Living Tree"

Wayne State alum, Gilbert Thibault, gave a talk on campus, September 3, 2015 entitled, "I Am The World's Oldest-Known Living Tree," promoting his book by the same name. The talk was sponsored by Wayne State's Department of Geology and the Environmental Science Program.

Thibault graduated with his PhD degree in Sociology from Wayne State in 1972, back when the Sociology department was combined with Anthropology, His sociology dissertation was a Marxist analysis of working class consciousness among Black and White workers in Detroit. The dissertation was titled, "Blue collar class consciousness: revolutionary or reformative?", and is still available through Wayne State libraries. He interviewed 300 workers (150 White and 150 Black) and a major finding was that Black workers had a more revolutionary mindset than White workers at the time. Thibault lives in California. This was his first time back to Wayne State since 1972!
