2018 outstanding master's thesis award call for applications

Given an increasingly competitive academic and non-academic job market, the Department of Sociology has created the Outstanding Master's Thesis Award. This $1,000 annual award is designed to encourage the production of Master's theses at or near the level of a publishable academic paper.

Eligibility

Full-time or part-time graduate students who have completed a Master's thesis in the previous academic year can apply by submitting their final MA thesis. Consistent with the purpose of this scholarship, the graduate committee will score each submitted thesis on the following criteria: contribution to knowledge, methodological rigor, and professional preparation.

Completed applications and any inquiries should be directed to Dr. Krista Brumley, director of graduate studies, Department of Sociology at kbrumley@wayne.edu. Please put "MA Thesis Award" in the subject line of your email.

The deadline for completed applications is March 1, 2018. The winner will be presented the award at the annual Sociology Student Award Day on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
