Wayne State graduate student honored with prestigious APA award
Julie Braciszewski, a fifth-year clinical psychology graduate student at Wayne State University, has been awarded the 2009 American Psychological Association (APA)/APAGS Award for Distinguished Graduate Student in Professional Psychology. This prestigious national honor is presented to only one graduate student annually in recognition of excellence in clinical work and contributions to the field.
Braciszewski is being recognized for her work in developing methods to enhance service accessibility and effectiveness for high-risk, urban African American children. Her approach emphasizes a close integration of research and practice to improve resource efficiency and the quality of health services for underserved populations.
Braciszewski will receive her award at the APA/American Psychological Foundation Awards ceremony during the 2009 APA Convention in Toronto, Ontario, held from August 6-9. Along with an all-expenses-paid trip and a $1,000 honorarium, she will deliver a one-minute acceptance speech and has been invited to give a 50-minute address as part of the convention’s program.
Her achievement will be highlighted in the November 2009 issue of "American Psychologist," featuring her award citation, biography, and bibliography. Wayne State University congratulates Braciszewski and her advisor, Doug Barnett, for this significant accomplishment that brings national recognition to the program and university.
