In addition, members represent over 40 different institutions across the state of Michigan, including both 2-year and 4-year as well as private and public institutions.

The award that Shelly has received, the Excellence in Leadership Award, is given to a MCPA member that has demonstrated continuous and sustained leadership to the profession of student affairs. MCPA notes that "The recipient of this award is honored for their professional commitment to service through significant, continued and unselfish service/leadership activities that have benefited the profession and association." Recipients have held leadership positions at state, regional and national levels in professional associations and have been recognized as leaders in both scholarly and practitioner roles.

Shelly was recognized for the innovative contributions that she has made to advising within the Department of Psychology, including PASS (our peer mentoring program), the extensive Blackboard site for majors that we offer, and other innovations in reaching out to provide students with information needed for their success; for her excellence in teaching, including her service as departmental coordinator for PSY 2300 (Psychology of Everyday Living); and for serving "as an 'unofficial' mentor to many new advisors... [and being] willing to guide and lend her expertise to new professionals in the industry without expecting anything in return."

Congratulations Shelly!
