Scott E. Bowen, Ph.D. announced as incoming department chair

The Department of Psychology is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott E. Bowen, Ph.D. as the incoming department chair. Dr. Bowen is currently serving as the interim chair of the department and will assume the role of chair on August 19, 2019. Dr. Bowen is replacing Dr. Boris Baltes who has taken the position of associate provost here at Wayne State University.

Dr. Bowen is a professor in the Department of Psychology as well as a faculty member of the translational neuroscience program. He earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Mississippi, Oxford, M.S., and was a National Research Service Award Postdoctoral Scholar at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, V.A.

I look forward to applying my skills, vision, and enthusiasm to further the level of research excellence, and to add to the prestige of the Department of Psychology here at Wayne State University.

As a scientist and educator, Dr. Bowen has continued a funded research program for over 20 years. He is passionate about educating graduate and undergraduate students in the classroom and the laboratory, training the next generation of scientific professionals.

Dr. Bowen's research focuses on behavioral pharmacology, behavioral toxicology, and neurobehavioral teratology. His research concentrates on the neurobehavioral effects of abused drugs, particularly inhalants, with hopes for elucidating the underlying causes and possible treatments.
