Psychology student receives Furstenberg Award for Excellence in Pre-Graduate Education
Sarah Patrick Plummer, a Ph.D. student in clinical psychology at Wayne State University, has been awarded the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System's Furstenberg Award for Excellence in Pre-Graduate Education. The award recognizes Plummer's exceptional contributions to the field of health professions training.
The Furstenberg Award is not only a testament to Plummer's accomplishments but also a recognition of her commitment to excellence during her predoctoral internship, an integral requirement to complete a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. The award encompasses health professions trainees across a spectrum of specialties within the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
The announcement came as a pleasant surprise to Plummer, who humbly acknowledged the support and guidance she received during her educational journey. Plummer highlighted the instrumental role played by her mentors, including Minden B. Sexton, Ph.D., director of psychology internship training, and Robert J. Spencer, Ph.D., chief of neuropsychology, who nominated her for the award.
Expressing her gratitude, Plummer said, "I am deeply grateful and honored to receive the Furstenberg Award. This recognition has allowed me to express my heartfelt thanks to the people who have supported me throughout my training."
Plummer is no stranger to recognition of her hard work. Notable accolades include fellowships such as the National Institutes of Health's Initiative for Maximizing Student Development Graduate Fellowship and Wayne State University Graduate School's competitive Graduate Research Assistantship. Plummer's dedication to research was further underscored by awards including the Blue Ribbon Research Award from the American Psychological Association's Society for Clinical Neuropsychology.
"I am truly appreciative of the opportunities that allowed me to develop and enhance my clinical and research skills," Plummer emphasized.
