Mark Lumley receives 2014 Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellowship

Professor Mark Lumley has received a 2014 Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellowship. These fellowships were created to recognize and provide support for members of the faculty whose continuing achievements and current activities in scholarship, research, or the fine and performing arts are nationally distinguished. The Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellowships are part of the benefaction to Wayne State University by Charles H. Gershenson, who formerly served on the Board of Governors.

Dr. Lumley received his award at the WSU Academic Recognition Ceremony on April 24, 2014. According to the program,

Mark Lumley, a professor in the Department of Psychology, is an internationally recognized researcher in the field of clinical psychology, with a primary interest on the interface of stress, emotional regulation, chronic pain and physical health. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in both health psychology and clinical psychology. He has been an associate editor for the Journal of Psychosomatic Research since 2011 and currently serves on five journal editorial boards. His research has been supported continuously since 1994 by the National Institutes of Health, including collaborative projects with researchers in the School of Medicine. His publication rate is exceptional (six to seven publications per year), and the majority of his manuscripts appear in high-impact, well-respected journals, with a career total of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. The fellowship award will support the expansion of research in Lumley's laboratory to include the development of psychological therapies for fibromyalgia and women with pelvic pain.
