Graduate student awards, internships and updates 2016
Reed Bramble (I/O area Ph.D. student) took 3rd place at the Wayne State University graduate symposium.
Breanne Helmers was awarded a competitive University of Michigan Injury Center Summer Internship for the Summer of 2016. This internship will provide her with a stipend to conduct research with Dr. Abbey this summer.
Jessica Irwin (CDS area Ph.D. student) was selected to be a fellow for the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at the University of Rochester, which is one of 43 programs funded by a federal grant from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. As part of this program, she will be conducting interdisciplinary autism research at the University of Rochester and will be working with a team of advocates to lobby for disability rights and legislation in Washington, DC. This fellowship will support Jessica's dissertation research, which is focused on autism.
Matt Jasinski and Christina Wong (clinical Ph.D. students) were awarded a Student Research Grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Michelle Mullins (I/O area Ph.D. student) has an internship with Ford Motor Company.
Shan Ran (I/O area Ph.D. student) was the recipient of the 2015 GEOC graduate teaching award.
Nick Seivert (clinical Ph.D. student) has been chosen as a graduate student representative to the Board of Directors of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP), which is a national organization of doctoral programs in clinical psychology that addresses education and training issues. Nick is one of 2 students chosen nationally, who will serve a 2-year term. The student representatives have responsibility for bringing forward and being a resource for graduate student concerns and needs, sharing them with the CUDCP Board at annual meetings.
Wyatt Stahl (I/O area Ph.D. student) has accepted a junior consulting position with Siena Consulting.
Lingfei Tang (CDS Ph.D. student) received two awards this academic year. He received second place for his poster presentation at the University's Graduate and Postdoctoral Research Symposium. He also received the Best Podium Presentation Award at the IOG/MPSI Lifespan Alliance Research Day.
Greg Thrasher (I/O area Ph.D. student) has received a trainee fellowship with the Institute of Gerontology.
Daniel Wiegert (I/O area Ph.D. student) has an internship with Johnson & Johnson.
Michael Williams (Clinical Ph.D. student) has continued his national service to the field. After serving as the 2013-15 student representative to the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP), he is now serving as Chair of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) Science Committee.
