Graduate admissions: Master of Arts in I/O Psychology

Admission requirements

For the terminal degree: Unlike the Master of Arts with a major in psychology, the Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology is not a transitional stage leading to doctoral degree candidacy (a terminal degree). Admission to this program is contingent upon admission to the Graduate School.

To be admitted, students should meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
  • A course in introductory psychology
  • A course in statistics with a grade of B or better

Application deadline: May 1 (offered for the fall semester only)

Applicants should submit the following items electronically. Hard-copy materials will not be accepted.

  • Two letters of recommendation: Completed by professors or other professionals who know you and your academic work sufficiently well to judge your qualifications for graduate study. These are submitted electronically via the online application system. Additional letters are allowed, but optional.
  • Professional statement: A one or two-page professional statement describing your areas of interest in psychology, preparation for graduate school, and career goals.
  • Writing sample (optional): Writing samples may include a senior thesis, conference presentation, or publication
  • C.V. or résumé(optional):Applicants may upload a C.V. or résumé.
  • Electronic transcripts: Upload transcripts from all previous institutions(including Wayne State if you previously attended classes here). Transcripts may be official or unofficial copies (or web printouts).
  • Official transcripts: If selected for admission, official transcripts from all previous institutions must be sent directly to gradadmissions@wayne.edu.
  • Application fees will be waived for the 2024 winter, spring/summer and fall semesters.

Financial aid

Departmental funding is not available for the terminal I/O master's program. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid or the Graduate School for other funding options.
