Wayne State University's Math Corps receives $100k gift from ASI
Detroit-based Adhesive Systems Inc. (ASI) presented a $100,000 gift to support the Math Corps, a combined academic enrichment and mentoring program for Detroit public school students led by faculty members from Wayne State's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). The gift is intended to provide funding for Math Corps' foundational programs - the Math Corps Summer Camp, the High School Bridge Program and Super Saturdays.
"ASI and our strategic alliance partners are committed to investing in our Detroit community in a meaningful way," said George Hill, co-founder and chairman of Adhesive Systems Inc as well as a CLAS political science alumnus. "Math Corps aligns with our focus on education, providing math and science educational opportunities that no doubt enhance Detroit children's chances to succeed. The passion of the Math Corps students and professors is contagious and it is important they know that we care. Our customers in the consumer packaging industry are our partners in making this gift."
Math Corps is a tuition-free academic enrichment and mentoring program. Over the last 20 years, it has developed exemplary math skills and a sense of community among thousands of Detroit students.
Through the flagship Summer Camp, the High School Bridge Program and Super Saturdays, middle- and high-school students work with mentors and instructors in a unique and supportive learning environment, where students help students and college professors provide passionate support. The older students develop self-esteem by practicing powerful training skills, while the younger students see the positive effects of education, instilling a work ethic and study discipline. Success is clearly evident in the graduation rates and college attendance for Math Corps alumni.
