Wayne State remembers Academic Advisor Gayle McCreedy

A memorial service will be held at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10 in WSU's McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and the entire Wayne State University community mourn the passing of Academic Advisor Gayle McCreedy. She passed away, surrounded by family, on Sept. 23, following a brief illness.

For nearly 40 years, McCreedy tirelessly dedicated herself to students in CLAS and beyond. She was for many years the undergraduate advisor for the Department of History and worked with several other WSU departments including anthropology, economics, and the labor studies program.

Her support for students often extended far beyond academics. McCreedy was a reliable advocate who formed meaningful connections with everyone she met. She was even known to assist some in finding secure housing and critical mental health resources.

In addition to her professional contributions, McCreedy was a cherished friend and colleague to many. Her generosity, warmth, and unrivaled sense of humor enriched the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

"Gayle was a sincere and passionate advocate for our students' well-being and often worked long hours to ensure they had the guidance and assistance they needed," said Department of History Chair Eric Ash. "She was a warm and generous colleague, a valued mentor, and a good friend."
