Victoria Meller named 2019 AAAS fellow

Victoria Meller, professor and chair of Wayne State's Department of Biology has been selected as a 2019 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This honor recognizes pioneering research on the role of RNA in epigenetics and gene regulation.

Meller's research focuses on global regulation of sex chromosomes by a process known as dosage compensation. AAAS Fellows are elected each year by their peers serving on the Council of AAAS, the organization's member-run governing body.

Meller shares this tremendous honor with thousands of AAAS Fellows before her including astronomer Maria Mitchell, elected in 1875, inventor Thomas Edison (1878) and anthropologist Margaret Mead (1934).

The 2019 group will receive official certificates and rosette pins in gold and blue, colors symbolizing science and engineering, in a ceremony on Feb. 15, 2020, during the AAAS Annual Meeting in Seattle.
