CLAS SciStores support first responders throughout coronavirus pandemic

The CLAS Science Stores has long been a mainstay for Wayne State researchers and labs. The store has been supplying WSU units with critical research and safety equipment for more than 70 years.

Now, when personal protective equipment is needed most, CLAS SciStores staff have stepped up to the plate. Since Michigan's stay-at-home order went into effect, employees have been taking turns to track down, procure and deliver protective gear across the university and beyond.

In early March, SciStores donated 50 cases of gloves and 700 protective goggles to WSU's Office of the Vice President for Research. The packages were brought to the university's Integrative Biosciences Center where they continue to be distributed to local first responders.

Through SciStores, CLAS donated more than 1,000 face masks and boxes of gloves to WSU's Facilities Planning and Management team and the Wayne State Police Department this week. This critical equipment will help keep facilities staff safe as they work to re-open campus to the community.

SciStores Manager Greg Kish says this is simply a continuation of what they've been doing for years. "We're honored to collaborate with units across the university to get these supplies to our first responders," he says. "At the end of the day, keeping Wayne State well-equipped and safe is what SciStores does best."
