Wayne State mathematics faculty, students shine at 2024 SIAM Great Lakes Meeting

Wayne State University mathematics students, faculty and alumni participated in the 2024 SIAM Great Lakes Sectional Annual Meeting on Oct. 12 at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Indiana.

Professor Hengguang Li delivered a plenary lecture titled "Corner Singularities: When and Where to Watch Out!" Additionally, Professors Fernando Charro and Catherine Lebiedzik organized a mini-symposium on undergraduate research, where Joseph Craciola, a student expecting to graduate in 2027, presented his research on "A Discrete Pizzetti Formula with Applications to Digital Image Restoration."

Also in attendance were Professors Fatih Celiker, Xiang Wan and Nkechi Nnadi, who recently completed her Ph.D. in 2024.

The Great Lakes section of SIAM (GLSIAM) was formed in 1988, to serve Michigan, Northern Ohio, Northern Indiana, Southern Ontario and the surrounding areas. It organizes its annual conferences around themes reflecting its members' evolving interests in applied mathematics.
