MIT Mathematics Professor Gilbert Strang to lead 2019 Owens Lecture

Professor Gilbert Strang from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be the lecturer at the 2019 Owens Lecture hosted by the Department of Mathematics. Professor Strang will address mathematical aspects of data science in his lecture "The Functions of Deep Learning".

Gilbert Strang is MathWorks Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Strang is a world-renowned mathematician whose research focuses on mathematical analysis, linear algebra, and PDEs. Professor Strang is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and fellow of the American Mathematical Society. He has received many prestigious awards for his outstanding contributions, including the 2005 Von Neumann Medal and the 2007 Su Buchin Prize.

The lecture takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25 in Room 1507 of the Wayne State University College of Engineering.
