Faculty promotions and awards April 2020

Wayne State's Department of Mathematics is pleased to announce the following promotions:

We are pleased to announce that Drs. Abhijit Mandal and Tao Huang are awarded the 2020-2021 University Research Grant (URG).

This award is part of an initiative sponsored by the Wayne State University Office of the Provost to encourage original research, scholarship and artistic expression that will promote a stimulating atmosphere for undergraduate and graduate education and faculty development. The URG Program provides funding for regular full-time tenure-track (not tenured) assistant or associate professors, tenure-track (not tenured) academic staff, and lecturers in their first seven years at WSU.

Dr. Huang's project title is Analysis of Ericksen-Leslie system modeling nematic liquid crystal flows.

His research interests are in the study of nonlinear partial differential equations, especially existence, regularity of the systems arising from differential geometry and fluid mechanics. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Dr. Huang at taohuang@wayne.edu.

Dr. Mandal's project title is Robust Variable Selection for High-dimensional Data.

His research interests are in robust inference, asymptotic theory, statistical genetics, independent component analysis, nonparametric additive models and multivariate analysis. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Dr. Mandal at abhijit.mandal@wayne.edu.
