David Patwin receives Dean Diversity Fellowship Award
We are proud to announce that David Patwin is a recipient of the Dean's Diversity Fellowship Award. This award, contingent on David's progress, provides for the first three years of his studies will be supported by the Diversity Fellowship. During his last two years, the Department will offer him a teaching assistantship position.
During David's time as a graduate student, he will build on his already solid mathematics background and learn additional research skills. This will prepare David for an academic career or a career as a mathematician working in an industrial environment.
David Patwin received his bachelor's degree (cum laude) in mathematics with a minor in computer science from Wayne State University in December 2019. When he was an undergraduate student at WSU, David was on the Dean's list almost every term. He also has been active in and around the department as a tutor for the Mathematics Resource Center (MRC), and as an undergraduate assistant with the Emerging Scholars Program (ESP). In his early education, David graduated from Cass Technical High School in the top 5 percent of his class and was accepted to Wayne State University on a Presidential scholarship. He was also a part of the Wayne State University Math Corps, a summer outreach program, both as a middle school participant, high school teaching assistant, and more recently as a college instructor.
