WSU seniors Ira Adolphues and Chris Bobryk presented results from their honors undergraduate research projects at the Geological Society of America National Meeting in Denver, Colorado during the last week of October, 2007.

Their research advisor, Dr. Larry Lemke, expressed his appreciation for both students' efforts: "Ira and Chris both worked diligently throughout the summer to complete their research. Their perseverance paid off and I have personally learned a great deal from both projects."

Adolphues, who is majoring in Geology, investigated natural gamma ray log response to texture and mineralogy in glacial sediments of southeastern Michigan. His results were surprising because they differ from the standard sand/shale model for gamma ray response that has been applied by Gulf Coast geologists for many decades.

Bobryk, who is majoring in environmental science, investigated physical and chemical variation of hyporheic zone characteristics beneath a Michigan freshwater stream. His results were interesting because they appear to document aquifer recharge through the hyporheic zone following a large precipitation event in August.
