WSU geology student receives national award
Gibran Washington has received the Mack Gibson Award from the National Association of Black Geologists and Geophysicists (NABGG).
The award comes with a significant cash stipend and represents the highest recognition that NABGG bestows upon a graduate student. Gibran received his B.S. in Geology from Wayne State in May 2003 and is currently enrolled as a graduate student in our department.
Gibran's master's thesis research addresses the distribution and significance of stable isotopes and mineral chemistry alteration halos in the giant Hollinger-McIntyre gold deposit of Ontario, Canada. Assistant Professor Ed van Hees presented the award to Gibran at a recent meeting of the geology department faculty.
